Method For Increasing The Power Production Of Upwind Turbines And Subsequent Downwind Turbines
d-1007 - Much of the current research related to wind energy is focused on achieving optimal power harvesting techniques. This technology relates to the optimization of wind farms and provides a method for increasing the power production of both an upwind turbine and subsequent downwind turbines by utilizing yaw control and wake steering techniques. The technology also makes adjustments to other turbine operation parameters (rotor speed, tilt, blade pitch, etc.) to lessen the turbulence in the upwind turbine's wake and allow downwind turbines to operate more efficiently. Features, Benefits & Advantages: o Maintain and increase the power production of upwind turbines operating under yaw o Decrease efficiency loss in downwind turbines o Decrease fatigue loading on downwind turbines caused by upwind turbine wakes o May boost power production of downwind turbines by steering high velocity wind into turbine blades Development Stage: Technology is currently being field tested to validate results of engineering simulations.
