The Australian Solar Council - the peak body for the Australian solar industry - has strongly welcomed Labor's solar policy, which was released today.
"Labor's solar policy will save Queenslanders money and create jobs across the State. " said John Grimes, Chief Executive of the Australian Solar Council.
"Labor has released a solar plan for the Sunshine State, which is responsible and affordable and will restore confidence in a battered solar industry.
"It might be raining in much of Queensland today, but Labor's solar policy offers a bright future for thousands of solar workers and small businesses across the State."
"Labor has shown real vision today, committing to a million solar roofs in Queensland by the end of the decade and sparking a decade about how Queensland can generate 50 per cent of its energy from solar and renewable energy by 2030."
"Labor's solar policy stands in stark contrast to the contempt shown by the Newman and Abbott Governments towards solar families and workers."
The Australian Solar Council has released a Solar Scorecard calling on voters to support parties that support solar and the Renewable Energy Target - the ALP, the Greens, the Palmer United Party - and to put the Liberal National Party last.
"We will support any party that supports good solar policy," said Mr Grimes.
The Newman and Abbott Governments are the most ant-solar governments in Australia's history."
The Newman Government has:
* been the chief cheerleader for the destruction of the Renewable Energy Target;
* systematically shut down all climate change and clean energy programs;
* mismanaged the phase-down of the Solar Bonus Scheme;
* punished families who have installed solar in good faith and overseen a situation where families get no price for the solar power they feed back into the grid; and
* ensured that no large-scale solar or renewable energy projects have been built in Queensland over the last three years.
The Australian Solar Council strongly welcomed the Queensland Greens' solar policy announced on 17 January, and we call on the Government to announce comprehensive solar policies before the election.
